A SPANISH SOUVENIR.

CHAPTER 5.
CLOUD NINE.

Calah

The morning after my adventure at the bar with Rhea I still haven’t heard from my parents. Not that it’s their job to reach out to me when I’m the one who was yelling like a maniac but I’m not sure what to expect when I go into the office. I’ve all but bought a plane ticket to Spain so I hope that they come around to the idea.

After I shower and get dressed I make my way into the office. Nervous energy bubbles up from my belly and I wish that I could just make it stop. It’s not like my parents are monsters, they just expect a lot from me. They wouldn’t ever really hurt me or put my job in jeopardy, right? I have to apologize for the way I acted yesterday. Rhea got me to see why I acted out so maybe I’ll tell them that too, this will be fine. Fiiiiiine.

When I get into the building I go up to my floor and it doesn’t look like Rhea is here yet so I’m just going to rip off the bandaid. Waiting around will make me way more nervous anyway. I walk down the hallway to my parents’ office and knock only once before creaking the door open.

“Calah, we were hoping you would come see us, come in,” Mother says.

Sure she didn’t jump up and give me an overexcited hug this time but at least she smiled. I walk into the office and take a seat across from Father. After a tense minute my mother joins me but we both start to talk at the same time.

“Oh sorry.”

“Sorry.”

“Ladies, we’re a family, I think everyone’s emotions were just running a little high yesterday. I know that mom has some things she would like to say, is that okay with you honey?” Father says, looking at me.

“Yes.”

“I’m sorry and I understand why you acted the way you did. It hurts me that you think that you gave up your childhood, I wish I could give it back to you in a way that would make you happier,” my mother explains.

“It’s not that, it’s like everyone thinks I’m strange and handles me with kid gloves, I just want to… I want to…” I stutter.

Ugh, I’m totally lost for words right now, they just make me so nervous and right now the only thing I can think of is HOT MATADOR.

“I think we understand where you’re coming from Calah. I know that the way we do things isn’t the way most others do, but everything came from a place of love, we want you to be happy,” Father explains.

“I’m so proud of the woman you have become. I’m sorry if the world doesn’t appreciate your unique personality but it’s beautiful to me,” Mother adds.

“Calah, is there something you want to say?”

“I still want to go to Spain, I’m sorry for acting like a petulant child yesterday but I want to close that deal. This is the type of thing I’ve been working towards right?”

Whew! It’s out now, all that is left to do is brace for the impact.

“Right,” Father smiles.

“Wait?”

“Yes, after you left yesterday we talked and realized that we should have offered you the opportunity,” he explains.

“So, I can go?”

“Yes.”

After that answer I swear that my ears stopped working. They went on and on for a while about what I needed to accomplish and where I would be staying while visions of white sandy beaches laced with hot guys danced in my mind. This is going to be the summer of Calah. I’m going to reach my career goals and hopefully have the time of my life. Maybe in Spain people won’t think I’m strange, it could be a whole new start.

“So, you’re going to need to take the day today to close down anything you can’t do from overseas and tomorrow to pack and get ready to go,” Mother declares.

“Oh wow, that soon?”

“Yes, we hired some on site staff for you and you need to be there to meet them,” my father clarifies.

“Wow, thank you. Thank you for trusting me and letting me do this.”

“Thank you for being such a good girl,” Mother smiles as she reaches for my hand.

“I’m sorry I had a hissy fit,” I blush.

“A what?”

“Rhea said I had a hissy fit,” I explain.

My parents just chuckle so I take it as a sign to get out of here before anything goes wrong. I walk down the hall to my office but I can’t feel my feet on the ground. I feel like I’m floating. I’ll go to Spain and stay on the beach. There will be a Prince there having a holiday and we’ll fall in love. He’ll be rough around the edges at first but I’ll win him over with my quirky personality and it will be amazing.

"Hello! Earth to Calah," Rhea titters.

"Oh hmm, Rhea my dear, good morning."

"Where were you just now?"

"Cloud nine?" I giggle.

"What’s going on, are we still having a fit?"

"No, I’m going to Spain in two days!" I squeal.

"What! That’s so soon but congratulations!"

"Thank you, you should be able to just assist me from home if you want, there is no reason for you to come into the office if I’m not here."

"Don’t worry about me, how do you feel? What were you thinking about?" she questions.

"The handsome Prince that will be on holiday in Spain and fall in love with me," I blush.

"I like it."

"I know, it’s juvenile."

"No, we all want that and you know what… maybe it won’t be an actual prince but you never know who you could meet."

"It’s going to be a lot of work too."

"Well, I’ll help you out. What can I help with right now?"

"Um, I guess I need to run down the list and close out anything I can’t do from overseas but after that… take me shopping?"

"Yes! Yes!!!" she claps her hands together and her smile is huge.

WHERE DREAMS COME TRUE.

CHAPTER 18. “Yes, hold on,” I hastily removed my shirt and put on the pile of our bag and her leggings. “Wait, don’t you want photos first?”...
