Calah
I eat the sweet maraschino cherry that garnished my drink and debate on what to do next when the bartender sets a fresh drink on the bar in front of me.
“Oh, I’m sorry, I didn’t order that. I’m about to leave.”
The bartender raises an eyebrow and points at someone at the end of the bar. When I look up I meet the piercing eyes of the handsome man I wanted to talk to earlier. He smiles at me and when I smile back he makes his way toward me. Oh shit, oh shit what am I going to say to him? Oh, shit!
I try to remind myself to smile as I rack my brain for something to say but as soon as he gets close to me, he flashes a handsome smile and extends his hand, “Dance with me?”
“Yes...” it escapes my lips before I can think of anything else to say.
That was easy enough, say yes. I place my palm nervously over his and he entwines our fingers and walks me to the dance floor. His hand is as warm as his smile and my belly fills with butterflies. Somehow he’s even more handsome close-up, his smile is incredible and he smells so delicious, almost like peppermint.
When we reach the dance floor he turns me toward him, wraps his arm around my hips and pulls me close to him. His hard body is warm against mine, I can feel him all over me and a gasp escapes my lips. He exudes confidence, and sex, don’t forget about the sex. When I feel his eyes on me, I chance a look at him through my lashes.
“I’m Mateo,” he smiles.
I stare dopily at him for a minute before I manage to say, “I’m Calah.”
There we go, I’ve said a total of three words to him but the way he is holding me makes me feel like I’m at home. He palms my lower back and starts to lead me around the floor. He twists and spins me all over the floor. I don’t know the steps but somehow he’s leading me perfectly and I’m having a lot of fun. So much fun that I’ve been able to stop focusing so much on his hard body brushing against mine and just listen to the music and enjoy his smile. His sexy, kissable smile but I’m trying not to get caught up at the moment, this is just dancing.
When the next song ends he pulls me close and walks me to a small table near the bar then pulls out a chair for me, so I sit down and he joins me. He’s close enough to touch but I’m scared to reach for him.
“Do you mind if I keep you company?” he grins.
“Not at all.”
“Thank you for dancing with me. I’m better at dancing than I am at talking,” he chuckles and reveals a dimple in his cheek, could he possibly be any hotter?
“Oh, it was lovely and I think I understand exactly what you mean.”
He gives me a small shy grin and I realize that he is totally different than I expected, he has the looks and dance moves of a playboy but the sweet personality of the boy next door.
“Forgive me if this is too forward but...you’re so beautiful,” he says while he looks into my eyes.
“You are too,” Oh gosh, I can feel my cheeks pink up and wonder what my face must look like right now.
Mateo chuckles a little and his laugh is just like his voice, it’s smooth and honeyed, “What brings you here tonight?”
“I’m staying at the resort, I’m in Spain on business and just came out tonight to explore a little.”
“Oh, I too have business at the resort.”
“What a coincidence...” I try to flirt but I have no idea what my face actually looks like.
“How long are you here?”
“Indefinitely right now, until I get the deal done.”
“I’m not sure if I should wish you good luck on your deal or hope that it takes a long time,” he winks and it sends a shiver down through my belly and lower.
“Are you based here?” I ask.
“Yes. It’s a family business, it’s hard to explain.”
“Actually, I work with my parents in the family business.”
“Oh, then you understand that even though I love my mother...”
“She can drive you crazy!”
We both laugh a little, “And your family, your husband or boyfriend where are they?” he continues.
“I wouldn’t have danced with you like that if I had a husband or boyfriend.”
“Oh, so why did you dance with me like that?”
“I... I wanted to,” I admit.
“Why am I the lucky one to get your attention?”
He is flirting with his eyes and lips and I want to blush up and retreat but something in my mind clicks. I decide not to let him get the best of me, it seems like what Ellamay would do.
I slit my eyes and say, “Because you’re far more interesting than anyone else I’ve met tonight.”
“Oh, and what do you find,” he scoots his chair closer to me and drapes his arm over the back of my chair. “What do you find interesting about me?”
I’m trapped all up in Mateo right now. I can feel his body heat again and smell his fresh peppermint fragrance, he’s close but so far trying to flirt back with him is fun so why stop?
“Your hair is sexy and so are your eyes,” I say as confidentially as I can.
He lets his hand drape over my shoulder, his fingertips dance against my skin until he tugs me closer to him. I can feel the smooth texture of his dress shirt against the skin on my arm.
“Your eyes are beautiful and you smell like sunflowers,” he says and it seems like his eyes deepen with each word.
He just keeps pulling me closer and closer to him but I don’t want to run anymore, “You’re devastatingly handsome and dancing with you was like a fairy tale.”
“Do you like fairy tales?”
The way he says fairy tales makes me giggle because he enunciates the wrong syllables.
“What?” he chuckles.
“You’re really adorable,” is all I can manage.
He gives me that shy grin I liked from before and now I know for sure that I’m in big, deep trouble.
