Unseelie Brothers, Ltd. by Fran Wilde
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
Another take on the idea that all the deals with the Fae come at a price.
It starts interesting enough, but then unfolds pretty much exactly as you’d predict (big reveal included), and all the stakes and price to pay end up being pretty tame and toothless and cute. And the focus on fashion didn’t help me as that in my mind is one of the most snoozeworthy subjects to write about. Clearly my unfashionable self would be shunned by the faeries.
And this is yet another one of the Hugo-nominated stories where resolution feels much too easy. I’m starting to feel like a Grinch though.
Cute and sweet and ultimately easily forgettable. At least it’s written alright.
3 stars.
