SHE'S THE MAFIA.

CHAPTER 16.
IF I CAN APOLOGIES?

Paxton’s POV

After knowing that Ms. Wolfe had lied, she was called immediately and was now standing in the center with her hands locked against her belly and head slightly lower in shame but everyone had thier eyes on me. Of course, I’m the only resposible of this situation. I was sorry, obviously, but what was clenching my heart was the fact that I tortured the girl because of whom my father is alive. I couldn’t help but keep cursing myself for being so dumb to not realise that the girl before me was my angel, not this hyprocite Ms. Wolfe. I was literally yearning to fire her for an instant but didn’t because terminating someone is a very simple punishment to what she’s done. She deserves something worse! But what punishment should I give to my dear bestfreind Charlie because he’s the only one because of whom I treated her that way. If he hadn’t emotionaly blackmailed me, I wouldn’t have gone so far. I want to slap myself hard for being so blind in friendship that I never realised what I was doing. The guilt was eating me inside. I was regretting about everything and was yearning to apologies, but because that’s noth correct time, I remained quiet.

“How could you even think that your lie would never be caught?” Asked Dad in his harsh tone. His was furious. Of course, such kind of act is intolerable in our building.

“I’m sorry, Mr. Grey!” She said, still not looking up, “I’m sincerely sorry for I what I did. I know- I looked at Janet and found her looking at my Dad. My eyes softened and heart clenched. Will she ever forgive me if I confess the truth? Suddenly, her gaze was on me and I was startled. I quickly looked at Dad and Ms. Wolfe and pretended I wasn’t even looking at her.

“There is no condonation of such acts, Ms Wolfe!” Said Dad and inhaled a large breath before he added, “You’re fired!” And her head was snapped at him instantly.

“No, Dad!” Eeveryone’s heads were snapped at me, “Terminating her is a very simple punishment,” I looked at Ms. Wolfe and ticked my jaw, “Let’s keep her here for 6 months straight with no pay!”

Ms. Wolfe’s eyes widened in shock, “What?”

“Yes. And you’re going to work for Ms. Reyes as her personal secretary now!” Hearing this, both Dad and Ms. Wolfe looked at Janet and then back at me. I took a slow step towards her and she gulped. The fear was evident on both her face and eyes. “Now, get out!” She seemed like she’d lot to say but keeping her words to herself, she just quitely walked away. I sighed, looking at the way she’d gone.

“It was quite a satisfying punishment!” Said Dad, snapping my eyes at him. I nodded and looked at Janet but the sooner our eyes locked, the quicker I looked away. I was so drown in guilt that I couldn’t even looked her in the eyes. Fuck!

“I think I should also make my leave now!” I looked at him and gave a nod. Dad looked at Janet and smiled, “Take care, dear!”

She smiled back, “You too, Mr. Grey!” Dad nodded at her and left us two alone. When he was gone, I cleared my throat and turned to her. “Do you need something?” She asked in her soft polite tone.

Yeah, your forgiveness!

I shook my head as a no. She smiled, “Okay!” And made her way towards the door but before she could reach it, I called her. She turned to me, “Yes, sir?” No smile was there on her face. I gulped, rolling my fists to grasp courage but no words were coming out. She shot her brows up. “Sir?” I opened my mouth but hell if I could say a thing. I looked away and took a deep breath in, calming my anxiety before I looked at her again. She smiled.

“I’m sorry!”

“Why?”

Because I tortured you for nothing!

“I-I don’t know. I just... I just feel I should apologies!” My eyes were tender and guilt-ridden. I bet she could see it but I wish she doesn’t push on it.

She let out a low chuckle, “But I doesn’t accept redundant apologies... Sir!” I’m not sure but I saw a shade of anger in her eyes that appeared for a nenosec while uttering that sentense.

Is she still mad at me for what I did earlier?

I stared at her, trying to read her if she’s still mad at me but couldn’t see anything. She looked normal. I looked away, “Maybe, I’m thinking too much!”

“What?”

I shot my brows at her, “Huh? Uhh, yeah! I mean, it’s alright if you don’t accept redundant apologies but you can accept an honest thanks, right?” I smiled in last.

“Nope!” Hearing this, my smile vanished and a frown took place between my brows. She chuckled, “Just kidding!”

“Ah, kidding?” I awkwardly smiled back and she nodded while chuckling like how funny that was. I looked away again, “What’s wrong with her, huh? She’s never acted this way before!”

“May I leave now?” She asked, snapping my head at her. I raised my brows at her with a hum, “May I leave now?”

“Yeah! Yeah, sure!” I smiled, “Go get to work!” She smiled back and walked out of my cabin. I arrested my fake smile and I sighed audibly, “How much awkward is this going to be?” I turned to my desk and rested my palms on it as I lowered myself a little and closed my eyes. Trying to relax myself a bit but then I shot my eyes open and rolled his fists tight, “Charlie fucking Lockhart,” I clenched my jaw, “You are gone!”

{Next Day}

“Paxton, I’m your bestfriend!!” Said Charlie aloud with horror dripping from his tone. I clenched my jaw, “No! We’re no longer bestfrieds!” Saying this, I climbed on the table and ran behind him with a baseball bat in my hand.

“At least, tell me what have I done?!!” He asked, standing on the back side of the five-sitter sofa with me on the front. He was clueless. I want to tell him but whenever I’m seeing his bloody face, I could only think of smashing it so bad for what he made me do.

“Come out!”

He shook his head, “Nope! Throw the bat away first!”

“Charlie I said come out!!” I yelled, glaring at him to death. He gulped hard, “And I said throw the bat away first!” I clenched his jaw and climbed on the sofa, making him to bolt away quickly.

“Okay, okay, okay!” He stood against the wall and gulped. His chest moving up and down because of the non-stop running, “Calm down and-and let’s talk about it!” He tried to calm me with his smile and soft tone but I was so outraged. I lifted my bat and hit on him but he ducked and caused the bat to hit the wall instead. When Charlie saw the hole that bat left on his wall, his eyes widened as tennis ball and mouth hung open. He looked me angrily, “Are you out of min- Ahh!” A yelp left his mouth when I hit my bat on his arm. “Dude?” He was shocked. Of course! I’ve never hit him before. I lifted my bat and was about to hit him again but he caught it and asked, “What’s the matter with you, huh? Why the fuck are you beating me?” I gritted my teeth and jerked the bat out his grip.

“Because you deserve it!” I said and hit him again. He grunted aloud. “You deserve more than this!!” I was about to hit him again but couldn’t when he ducked and ran away, towards the dinning area. “Stop right there you fucking bastard!!” I threw the bat at him which flew up his head.

He halted when he saw the bat falling before him, “Bloody hell, Paxton! It could have broke my head into TWO!!!” He screamed the last word frightened and his eyes almost popped out when I picked up a vase from the ground. He gulped hard, “D-Dear Paxton... Put the damn vase down!” I tightened my jaw, glaring at him. He made a crying face. “I will die, man!”

“Yes, I will kill you!” Saying this, when I was about to throw it too, I realised that it could really kill him. I blinked, “But not with this!” I put the vase on ground and ran behind him again. He climbed on the dinning table, followed by me and jumped down, running towards the staircase to save himself from me but only after a few stairs, I caught his ankle and yanked him all the way down. He cried, “God, what is wrong with you? Why are you so determined to kill me?”

I straddled him and grabbed the collar of his shirt, “Because you made me do all that!” He blinked, not getting what I was talking about, “Just because of you I treated her that way, bastard!” I twisted his collar tightly around my fist as I added, “I feel like shit!”

“Treated who, man?”

“Janet!!” He froze, though his brows were still tangled as he still couldn’t get the point, I guess. I continued, “Yes, Janet. I tortured that sweet girl because of you, rascal! My heart stopped me many times, but I ignored it and continue torturing her because of you. Despite how much I pissed her with my unnecessary commands, that sweet smile of hers never flew away. I tortured that sweet soul to hell, but still... Nor does she ever complained, neither she got irritated,” My eyes softened and voice lowered, “She is the sweetest and the kindest girl ever, Charlie. I regret it all!”

“And she’s also the woman because of whom my girl left me!” He said in a flat tone.

“No! It was your fault. You yourself fought with her unnecessarily!”

“Wow, the pot is calling the cattle black?” He was offended, “What did she do that cause you to act this dramatic?”

I shot my brows up, “Dramatic?”

“Yeah, dramatic! And I think you forgot but let me remind you that I don’t hate her just because she is the reason behind my break up. But because she slapped you too!”

“I threw her in the pool, Lee. I deserved that slap!!” I gasped, “In fact, I threw her in that pool because of you, cause you were the one who gave me that fucking stupid dare!”

“What the fuck that bitch has done to you, huh?”

“Don’t you dare use any bad word against her!” I sneered, grasping his collar tighter. He ticked his jaw and pushed me in a way that I was off him completely and was the on floor. He straddled me and grabbed my collars before saying, “She is a bitch!” When he said that, all I could see was red. So, the next thing I did was punching him so hard that he was on the ground besides me. He looked at his blood on his hand then at me in utter disbelief. He was shocked with my action. Obviously, he couldn’t believe that his bestfriend just punched him!

I sit up and said, “Ms. Wolfe lied. Janet was the one who saved my Dad!” Hearing this, He frowned and asked, “What?” I looked away.

Charlie and I were in the kitchen now. I was making drinks for both of us and Charlie was soothing his jaw with an ice-bag. “So, what’re you gonna do now?” He asked and I shrugged, “Just gonna treat her right and going to do every possible thing to have her forgivness!”

“Forgivness?” He asked, rasing his brows at me. I nodded, pressing my lips together in a thin line. He let out a low chuckle, “You mean, you’re going to confess to her that you used her, abused her, humilated her, tortured her, and did every cruel thing just because she slapped you?” My smiled vanished and he chuckled, “She will never forgive you, dude!”

“Maybe. But I’m gonna try, at least!” I passed him the glass of whiskey and took my seat next to him, on the kitchen counter. Both staring at the wall in silence with drinks in our hands. Suddenly, Charlie looked at me and snapped my head at him. I lifted my shoulders, “What?”

“Janet is no longer our enemy. So?” He raised his brows at me. I blinked. I could see the mischief in his grey eyes and something more that I couldn’t put my finger on. I lifted my one brow at him as I repeated, “So?” His expressions become flat and he scoffed, roling his eyes aside. I frowned clueless and lifted my glass to my mouth, drinking my whiskey but then his next words had me choke on my drink hard.

“So, are you again into her?” He asked me in his simple words without any hasitation this time. I coughed and looked at him with wide eyes. Didn’t expected that coming! He smirked, moving his brows up and down at me in amusement. I put my glass on the counter next to me and looked away, cleaning my mouth with the help of my cuffs. “C’mon, Paxton. Tell me already!!” He insisted. I pressed my lips together, not sure what to answer. I mean, now that I have no reason to hate her, I can think about it. But after how I have treated her, she will never think about me in that way.

“Paxto-

“I don’t know!” I said aloud. I was a little annoyed, not with him, but with the fact that things have already become a mess between us and my approach after all that will turn it worse. I looked away from him and sighed, “I don’t know,” My voice was weak and eyes were full of dismay.

“Hmm, seems like you got a lot to handle!” He stated and I nodded, “Why don’t you start with an apology then?” I looked at him and he smiled, “You said you will try... So, just leave everything on her answer to your apology?” I stared at him for moment before finally giving him a nod. His smile brightened.

“You’re unbelievable sometimes!” I confessed, looking at him in disbelief with a small smile on my face. He chuckled, “I know,” I chuckled back and looked away, shaking my head as to how the hell did I end up becoming this ass’s bestfriend.
